PLM was awarded a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I contract through the Institute of Education Sciences in the US Department of Education to develop online laboratory experiments for high school physics students. High School Virtual Physics Lab includes video clips, simulated laboratory experiments, data collection tools, and pre- and post-lab assessments. Four labs were developed and tested during Phase I to assess their feasibility and to prepare them for commercialization.

Under SBIR Phase II funding, 20 additional labs were developed. Testing in high schools in West Virginia, Texas, and Florida showed comparable learning among student who used the virtual labs vs. those who performed the labs hands on. Results can be seen in a peer-reviewed journal article.

Online versions of the labs are available through Houghton-Mifflin-Harcourt publishers, and iOS Apps are available through iTunes. Brief descriptions of the apps are available.
